The short version: your pay data stays on your device and in your own iCloud. The only thing you can choose to give us is an optional email address for updates. If you scan a payslip, the camera reads the page on your device and nothing is uploaded.
Everything you enter in Owed – your jobs, rates, and shifts – is stored on your device and syncs privately through your own iCloud so your other Apple devices stay up to date. Owed has no accounts of ours and no sign-in. Your records live in your own iCloud private database. Owed has no server of its own and no access to that database – we cannot see, access, or share your records.
No pay data, ever. Owed contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no trackers. The only personal information we ever hold is the optional email address described below, if you choose to give it.
owed.today (the website, not the app) uses Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read: rough location from IP address, device and browser type, and which page sent you here. We've turned off Google Signals, so this data is never linked to your Google account or used for ad targeting. Google's own privacy policy covers what they do with it; you can opt out in any browser with Google's opt-out add-on. None of this touches the app. Your shifts, rates, and pay figures live on your device and never reach this site or Google, in either direction.
Inside the app you can choose to leave an email address (and, if you like, a first name) so we can tell you about Owed updates. This is typed by you, entirely optional, and used for nothing else. We also note your country, taken from your device's region setting, never your location, so we can tell you when Owed's pay rules cover your part of the world. These details are sent to our email provider (Resend) and held there until you unsubscribe; every email we send includes an unsubscribe link that removes you immediately. Your shifts, rates, and pay figures are never part of this. They stay on your device and your own iCloud.
Owed can read the figures off a payslip you point the camera at. The page is read entirely on your device, by Apple's on-device text recognition. The image is never written to your photo library, never saved by Owed, and never sent anywhere – there is no network code in that part of the app at all. Owed asks for camera permission the first time you use it, and the feature simply stays unavailable if you decline.
The scan only ever proposes figures. It shows you what it read and the line it came from, and nothing is used until you tap the one that is yours.
If you turn on the payday reminder, Owed schedules a local notification on your device for the morning after your pay period closes. It is scheduled and delivered by your iPhone. There is no server and no push service involved, nothing about your pay is contained in it, and nothing leaves the device. Turning it off removes any pending reminder.
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Owed never sees or stores your payment details, and we hold no billing records of our own – the app only asks Apple whether this Apple ID currently holds the purchase. Refunds, receipts and subscription management are Apple's, under Apple's privacy terms.
You can export a pay period as a PDF and a spreadsheet. Owed creates those files on your device and hands them to the standard iOS share sheet. Where they go next is entirely your choice – we are not a party to it, we are not told what you picked, and nothing is sent to us. Once shared, the file is governed by wherever you sent it.
If you use Owed through Apple's TestFlight, Apple may share standard beta information with us: crash logs, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send through TestFlight. This comes from Apple under Apple's privacy terms; we use it only to fix problems, and it contains no shift or pay data unless you include it in a screenshot yourself.
Sync note: Owed keeps your devices in step through your own iCloud private database. Because this is your iCloud and not a server of ours, we still cannot see your records – Owed has no access to that database. Deleting the app removes it from that device; your data is removed from iCloud when you delete it in the app or sign out of iCloud.
If you email us at hello@owed.today, we will have your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply, and for nothing else.
Owed computes from the times and rates you enter. It is a personal record, not payroll or legal advice, and not an official pay record.
